Common questions
How do I invite someone to watch over me?
On the My wave screen, tap Invite a watcher. Vink shows a six-digit code that works for ten minutes. The other person opens Vink, goes to Watching, taps Add someone and enters the code. You then confirm them on your phone. Nobody can watch over you without your confirmation.
What happens if I forget to wave?
At your check-in time, your iPhone reminds you. If the wave still has not arrived after a short grace period:
- you get a text message, if you have added your own mobile number,
- the people who watch over you get a notification,
- as a last step, watchers who added their number and your SMS contacts get a text message.
As soon as you tap I'm OK, everyone who was alerted is told that you are fine.
How do I pause the daily wave?
For a trip or a hospital stay, open Settings and tap Pause the daily wave under Taking a break. Choose how long the pause should last. The people who watch over you are told, and nobody is alerted until the pause ends. To end it early, tap Resume watching.
How do I change my check-in time?
Open Settings, choose a new Check-in time under Daily wave and tap Save. The daily reminder on your iPhone moves with it.
What are SMS contacts?
People without the app, such as a neighbour, whom Vink can text about you. They get a text only when it matters: if your wave does not arrive and nobody in your family has responded, if you ask for help, when you pause or resume the daily wave, and if you delete your account. Add them in Settings under SMS contacts, up to ten.
I got a text from Vink, but I don't use the app
Someone you know has added your number as one of their SMS contacts, so that you can be reached if they might need help. To stop the texts, ask them to remove you, or write to us and tell us your number.
Is Vink an emergency service?
No. Vink is a daily check-in, not an emergency alarm. If someone needs urgent help, call your local emergency number: 112 in Sweden and the rest of Europe, 911 in the United States and Canada.
The I need help button tells the people who watch over you right away, but it does not contact emergency services.
How do I delete my account?
Open Settings and tap Delete account at the bottom. Vink lists who will be told, and you confirm with Apple. Your account, your wave history, your number and your SMS contacts are deleted, and the people connected to you are told that you have left Vink.
If you can no longer open the app, write to us and we will help you.
